Like most, i recently found that my piggies were making more and more mess with their hay rack and with my busy schedule, sweeping the floor two or three times a day to stop hay being dragged around the house was just not an option.
I tried my hay rack in several different ways. First, hanging inside over the cage which was great but caused my usually clean tidy fleece downstairs to get very messy very quickly.
I tried hanging it just on the edge, great clean fleece, very messy floors and hay started showing up in every room.
So then i discovered hay bags, and being the d.i.y person that i am, i thought i'd give it a go and make one myself, simple... well thats what i thought.
After several attempts my bag was complete with a few nifty ideas added along the way.

I decided to add velcro along the top, to stop sneaky pigs jumping in for a nap and to keep an overall tidier look.
I chose square windows more out of ease than the way i wanted it, i wasn't quite brave enough to try circles!
I used thick bits of elastic that i'd chopped off of old mattress protectors while sewing cage liners to make nice stretchy loops. And then used circular clips to attach the loops to the cage.
It's been a few weeks since i've made my hay rack and i must admit i love it....
Positives.
Generally tidier less bits fall out from all sides and angles!
Looks much prettier and can be matched to cage decor.
Very cute.
Easy to fill as can be lifted into the hay storage and filled then taken out and hung.
Stops as much dust being about in the room and has helped OH's allergies!
According to the guineas is perfect to nap under and rub against...?
Can be made to any size big or small. Completely customisable!
Negatives.
Needs to be washed after a while can start to look a bit dirty.
As above, need more than one for replacement when being washed.
Not as simple or quick to clean as a rack.
Sometimes needs to be 'fluffed up' like a pillow to get the most of hay so you don't get lots around the edges and none in the holes!
So as you can see this product really holds far more positives than negatives and is the perfect addition to any cage, big or small! I'd recommend to anyone this is the way forward in piggy dinning!
